PROMPT #18 “Playing Computer Games is a Waste of Time and Should Not be Allowed. Do You Agree or Disagree?”

Today’s prompt is if playing computer games is a waste of time. I don’t really like playing computer games so I believe that computer games is a waste of time and should not be allowed. Technology has improved so much these days that it scares me of how children’s lives are being affected significantly. There was one time when I went into a room with a whole group of kids. Everything the kids were talking about was about computer games. Every single kid was talking of how they got an item in this game or how they spent all night trying to accomplish a level. They talked about how some of them begged their mom to put in cash so that they could get items that you could not get unless you pay real cash. Some of the kids were planning of what time and what day they were going to meet in the game at home. When I was little I ran around outside and played outside, interacting with other kids that I have never seen before. Whoever was in the playground became my friend, and that was a very good way of improving my social life. That made my personality better and also my health better. Now children are not playing outside. They are not running around or playing in the playground like how children did years ago. It is very unhealthy for kids to just stay at home and play computer games all day. This does not only affect a child’s health but also affects their hearing and eyesight. The more a child plays computer games, the more that child’s eye sight and hearing becomes bad. If you see carefully, a child who plays computer games all day and a child who runs around outside and is active have totally different personalities. A child who plays computer games all day does not have the chance to learn how to interact with other children. They lack in the knowledge of interacting with others, they only have the thought of playing games and winning in games. The children who play outside learn how to interact with other children. In the future, kids who have played outside rather than playing computer games live a better life in the society. Children who only played computer games have difficulty fitting in society.

            Even though I believe playing computer games is a very unhealthy and something that is just a waste of time for children, I play CANDY CRUSH. That is the only game I play. When everyone else played games, I did not understand why it was so fun and addicting. When everyone played games, I watched drama. I am really a drama fan, especially KOREAN DRAMA, but now I feel like I should stop watching drama because I should concentrate on my studies. The only computer game that was actually fun for me is TETRIS and CANDY CRUSH. Another reason I do not like computer games is because I am really bad at the. RIGHTNOW I am a fan of CANDY CRUSH! I think this is the only game that I have played whenever I get bored. I have it as an APP on my phone. That is the only game that is on my phone. ANYWAYS, even though games are a waste of time, I do not think it should be eliminated. People could release their stress by playing games. If that is a way to release someone’s stress, then I believe that it is a good thing for computer games to exist, but I believe that CHILDREN should not only play computer games and should go outside and interact more with other people.

PROMPT # 17 "Define Beauty"

BEAUTY means something different for everyone in the world. When I typed “definition of BEAUTY “in Google, the first definition that came out was: a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, esp. the sight. This is a definition where beauty means a person who is very beautiful. By this definition, for someone to be beautiful, he or she would have to be pretty in every single way. Art can be beautiful as well. I have seen many different kind of art sculptures, art drawings and paintings of drawings my many different artists. Every artist in the world has a different style of how they show their sculptures, drawings, and paintings. Some artists just SPLASH paint all over a paper and call that BEAUTY and art. Some of those paintings are displayed in famous museums. When people see this kind of art, some people think WHY IS THIS EVEN DISPLAYED IN THIS MUSEUM, but others think of how BEAUTIFUL and meaningful the painting looks. I believe that everyone in the world has a different view on what is beautiful or not.

                The second definition of BEAUTY in Google was: a beautiful or pleasing thing or person, in particular. This can also mean that if something is beautiful in one person’s eyes, then for that person the definition of BEAUTY is this. Everyone has a unique definition of BEAUTY for themselves. I believe for a person, beauty is not just the way a person looks but is how a person is on the inside. A person could do plastic surgery and fix everyone on their body to LOOK beautiful. The meaning of BEAUTY cannot just be determined by the looks of a person because if anyone with money in the world could go do plastic surgery and become pretty even if they looked really ugly before. Also, the meaning of BEAUTY should not be determined by the way one acts. Anyone in the world could act any way they want. People could act FAKE just to look good in front of a person they want to. A person could act a different way to get what they want to. The only BEAUTY I believe in is a person’s ACTUAL personality. That is like the inner beauty of someone. A person’s personality does not change because one wants it to change. A person may act differently and act like they have a different personality, but in the future, their real personality does not change entirely. If a person was kind and helpful to everyone in the past, and if that was his or her personality, but if something happened in the middle and the person changed his or her personality entirely, that would not matter because in the future he or she would remember his or her personality again and return to his or her personality again. OPPOSITELY, if a person was mean and disrespectful to everyone around them before, and changed his or her personality into a kind, caring person, it does not mean that the person’s real personality would return. If a person who was mean and disrespectful in the past tries their best and puts a lot of effort into changing their bad personality, it may seem like the person has changed their personality entirely, but in real life if that person comes under a type of situation where he or she has to turn back to his or her personality, then that person would trash every effort he or she tried to become a nice person and would turn back to the mean and disrespectful person.

PROMPT #16 “If you were stranded on an island, what are three things you would take?”

If I were to be stranded on an island, I would take my cellphone, a dog (companion) and kitchen tools like a knife that could help me survive. I think a companion would be the NUMBER ONE thing I would take. If they say I cannot take a person, then I would take a dog. I get scared a lot really fast, and I feel like if I am stranded on an island, I would not be able to spend the day and nights I am on the island alone. A dog is a really friendly companion to be with. With a dog by my side, I feel like I could wait for help to come and save me and my dog from the island. Also, a dog could be very helpful in finding things to help both of us survive. The dog could catch food for us to eat and also find edible food. I am scared of the dark sometimes, so at night if I am alone I would be scared. I would bring a BIG FRIENDLY dog that would be kind and friendly to me but if a scary animal or something tries to attack us, it will turn scary and attack them back to save me.

The second thing I would bring is my cellphone. If I have my cellphone on an island, I would be able to call for help. I would call everyone I know for help and so they would come and save me and my dog. Also, if my dog and I are stranded on an island with only two of us, it would get boring sometimes, so I would turn on music from my phone to keep us both less bored. We could also play games on my phone to help the time pass and also take pictures. Taking pictures is actually really fun. It is also a good way to keep memories. So by taking my dog and my photo, we could keep the memory of when we were both stranded on an island and see how hard life could be. This is a way to thank our parents for taking care of us by washing our clothes, cooking us food, and making money for all of this to be possible.

The third thing I would bring is kitchen tools and other things that could help me survive. To survive on the island, a knife would be the most important thing one needs. With a knife I could cut things open and make things to survive on the island while I am stranded on the island. If I find a coconut or a plant I could carve or peel it with my knife to eat the plant and also feed my dog. I could also use the knife to use as a weapon. If someone or something tries to attack me or my dog I could use the knife to kill the person or thing to keep my dog and myself safe. Also, if my dog catches a small animal that we could eat, I could cut the skin to make it edible. Even though that is really disgusting, I would probably do it because if I don’t I would not be able to stay alive and also keep my dog alive. I would use other things on the island to survive. I would use big leaves to use as a bed or blanket, or even as a cup to fill with rain so that my dog and I could have water to drink.

PROMPT #15 “What do I want on my tombstone?”

Tombstones are what are placed over a grave. I do not want to think about what would be on MY tombstone because I do not want to die………………………….. I WOULDN’T know what would be on my tombstone because I would be DEAD when they put a tombstone over my grave… ANYWAYS if I had to think about my tombstone and decorate my own tombstone, I would make my tombstone REALLY PRETTY and BIG and AWESOME. First I would like my tombstone to have A LOT of flowers, and I mean A LOT of PRETTY flowers that smell really good so that when people smell the flowers they would come to see my grave. If people come to my grave, then I would not be lonely even when I’m dead. Also when people see my grave I do not want them to be like why is that tombstone there and say bad things about me when I’m dead inside, I want them to complement how pretty the tombstone and grave is and how the family of this tombstone cares a lot about their family that has passed away. This would encourage other families to also care for their dead family members graves. When a person’s family members die, sometimes the family just buries the body and leaves the dead person and does not visit the grave. They think that it does not matter because the person is dead and they do not want to waste their time doing something that would not benefit them financially. My family is not like that. I visited my great grandmother’s grave, and before my family walked up to the grave, we went to the store to buy fresh flowers and also food that my great grandmother liked to eat and drink. My great grandmother liked to drink Soju which is alcohol so we bought it and we poured a little by little on her grave and cut the long grass that made our great grandmother’s grave look messy. It takes a lot of money taking care of a grave. You have to pay a specific amount of money because the people at the grave site cut the grass and looks out for the graves. People who are not rich and do not have the money to support their own family have a hard time caring for people in their family who have died because they just do not have the money. This is a case where it is not the family’s fault that they cannot visit the grave of their relatives and care for the graves, but people who could, should think about their family members who have already passed away and visit them. My grandmother (Dad’s mom) always tells me that when she dies you don’t have to come visit be every time but please come maybe once a year or at least once every two years. I always get mad when my grandma says this to me. I told her I will visit every time when I have time but to please stop saying that she is going to die. She is now about 70 years old but she is very healthy. She is the healthiest grandma I have ever seen in my life. My grandma always exercises by walking up mountains and always eats healthy foods. My mom also bought dried blueberries for my grandma to eat because she said she feels dizzy sometimes. I LOVE my grandma and I wish she would stop telling me to please come visit her when she dies, I want her to stop thinking of herself dying and think of other things we could do. 

PROMPT # 14 “The television has a greater effect on people’s lives than the telephone has. Do you agree or disagree.”

“The television has a greater effect on people’s lives than the telephone has. Do you agree or disagree.” I agree with this prompt. Both the telephone and the television have made a great leap in people’s lives to make the world more improved and modern. The telephone has made it possible for people to communicate with each other even when they are far away from each other. Before telephones were made, if a person wanted to tell someone something they would have to walk to the person and tell that person the news in person. The telephone was a very effective invention because without the telephone, many people would have died. In emergencies, now people could just call 911 for help. Now a days, people could call the police in situations that are life threatening, asking for help, but before when the telephone was not invented, people would have to walk miles just to get a doctor . People had to ride horses or walk by feet to get help. By the time a person got help of a doctor, the patient at home would already die. Even though the telephone was a very influential invention, the television has affected the lives of people more than the telephone has.

People were influenced in bad and good ways because of the television. The television made people watch TV which is a bad thing if they watch TV for the whole day. Television shows is something that is very addictive and lures people to continue watching the next episodes. At first, when the televisions were first invented, only high class people could buy televisions because it was extremely expensive. This also made the unfairness of how rich people could watch TV and poor people could not afford to buy one. Even though these are some bad influences, this does not mean that the television was just a bad invention. The television shows news about how things are going around the world. These kinds of channels are very good because people around the world should know what is happening in the world or at least what is happening in their country. These kinds of channels have helped educate many people with the knowledge of daily news. Many people around the world have learned a lot from news they watch at home. Also, because the television was invented, many people got jobs. If there was no television, dramas and TV shows would have never been made. The numerous actors and actresses would have never got their jobs and the economy would have been worse. The television also brought joy and entertainment for everyone in the world. It brought families to get together more often and watch TV together. The television has improved a lot from when it was first invented. At first the computer was very big and heavy and needed antennas for the television to connect to the satellite, but now the TV has improved a lot. Now TV’s come in different colors and sizes. Now the TV does not need antennas for the television to work. Now there are flat screen TV’s and so many different kinds. Also, now some TV’s are cheaper so poor people could also afford to get TV’s but this does not mean that every single person in the world could get a TV because you also need to pay for the electrical fees. This is the reason why the television had a greater effect on people’s lives than the telephone.

            Even though there are many different definitions of success in the dictionary, but for me, success is simply when I accomplish something I wanted to accomplish. For example, from when I was in 8^th grade, I wanted to make an album of my photos and my family’s photos for my mom and dad’s birthday. I bought an album in the summer of eighth grade but I had no time to finish it until I was in tenth grade I finally finished it and gave it to my mom. I worked on the album every time I had extra time and also on weekends. I also had to wait until I went to Korea again because I had to get baby photos of my family from when my brother and I were young. I had to go to both of my grandma’s house to gather photos so I finished about one fourth of the album when I was in ninth grade. After I got those photos, I started to work on the album. I put A WHOLE LOT OF EFFORT into the album and when I finally finished it I felt SO ACCOMPLISHED and successful! This was one time I felt successful. When I gave the album to my mom, my brother told me that I just made that because I did not want to use money to buy my mom something expensive. I was MAD because I always had the idea to buy my mom something and my brother always just told me lets half the price to pay for something expensive. I made the album because I wanted to make something memorable for my mom and something she could keep. Also when I grow older, my mom could see the album and remember that I made that for her when I was a sophomore. I told my brother that MY ALBUM IS WAY MORE MEANINGFUL than anything in the world! I felt really relieved and successful because I was one step ahead of my brother towards my mom. I also wanted my brother to make something meaningful like that for my mom and dad. By seeing what I made, I wanted my brother to also make something so that my mom and dad would be SUPER HAPPY. Other times I felt successful was when I scored in sport games like in a basketball game or soccer game or during a volleyball game. I feel happy when I score and accomplish my goal. Even though while playing in a team I get tired and want to stop running, after the game when my team wins, everything I did feels right and I feel like I accomplished something. Everyone in the world feels successful in many different ways. When someone defines success, they say the definition in their own way. I also feel successful when I get good grades. When I get a bad grade I feel unsuccessful and stressed and for the whole day my mood is down to the floor but when I get a good grade I become happy. 

PROMPT #12 “My Bucket List”

I have a WHOLE lot of things I want to do before I die. A BUCKET LIST is a list of things a person wants to do before they die. I WANT TO MEET FAMOUS KOREAN STARS! There are so many Korean stars that I like! I love watching drama which is a bad hobby because it does not help you in any educational benefits, but I am still a fan of Korean dramas. One thing I want to do before I die is get to meet at least TEN Korean stars. I want to meet Baek Hyun who is in Exo which is a Korean group. Hyun Woo Lee who is an actor that I really like. There are too many people that I cannot name all of them! I REALLY REALLY wish I could meet any famous people. If you walk around in Korea, sometimes some people see famous people. I only saw a famous person and actually got his autograph only once. Last time this Korean TV show where they play baseball came to Saipan. I went to see the famous people playing baseball, but it was not fun because I do not really like baseball and I could not see the faces of the famous people because they were so far away. About a week ago, another group of famous people came to Saipan to take a TV show. I got to see them but I had to leave because I had to go to SAT class. SO SAD!

I also want to swim with dolphins before I die. I’ve seen A LOT of movies and pictures of people swimming with dolphins. I would not only like to swim with normal dolphins, but also with PINK dolphins. I heard of an incident where a worker died because a killer whale accidentally brought the worker with her down into the pool. The article said that the dolphin was only doing that because she was playing with the worker, but the worker had died because she could not breathe. Even though this could be dangerous, I want to take the risk to swim with dolphins before I die because I feel like it would be REALLY interesting and an AWESOME experience.

            Another thing that is on my bucket list is to go scuba dive in Palau and see the jellyfish and sharks. The Jellyfish Lake in Palau is famous for having a huge amount of jellyfish that do not sting. Some of my friends have been there and they said that it was so cool and a very interesting experience. They all encouraged me that I should also go to Palau if I have the chance to. One of my friends told me that scuba diving with the sharks was really scary because they would just pass you and sometimes touch you. This also might be dangerous in some way because scuba diving is always somewhat dangerous, but I still want to go scuba dive where I can touch sharks and jellyfish and get to see them right in front of me.

            I WANT TO TRAVEL AROUND ALL OF THE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. Before my dream job was to become a pilot because I LOVE traveling and I wanted the opportunity to be able to fly anywhere I want to go and visit countries I’ve never been to. If I do not become a pilot, my dream is to be able to travel around the world before I die. The place I want to visit the most is America. I have been to Europe, China, Peru, and many places except for America. This was because America is very far from where I live which in in Asia, so my family never had the time to travel that far, when I grow up, my goal is to travel to America and to many other countries.
